The human skin gets its colour due to the presence of a pigment by the name of melanin. This pigment reacts with the sun’s ultra-violet rays and protects the skin from the harmful effects of it. Concentration of melanin is the deciding factor for the skin colour each individual is born with. The lesser amount of melanin implies a fairer skin tone while the dark-skinned are blessed with more amounts of melanin. However, melanin by itself is not going protect a person fully from the dangers of UV rays. This is why people are recommended to use sun-block creams, lotion, and other gels to protect themselves from the ill-effects of the UV rays.
